Flowers are blooming and long days spent outside are here! With warmer weather and higher temperatures comes stronger sunshine, so local experts Jane and Sophie of janegee are sharing pointers on how to stay healthy and burn-free, naturally, this summer!

Eat more foods that are high in antioxidants…

to decrease your chances of burning. Blueberries, pomegranate and dark leafy greens are all high in antioxidants!

Avoid using commercial sunscreens with chemicals…

in them; they create a chemical soup on the skin and actually can cause you to burn. Always avoid those sunscreens containing oxybenzone! Janegee carries a brand called Goddess Garden that they recommend. It is organic and has really clean ingredients.

Wear a hat…

if you are staying out in the sun for any length of time. Jane and Sophie love the hats from Goorin Bros. in Boston!

Rub an organic cut tomato on a burn…

to help heal skin faster. The tomato takes the heat and sting out of the Sunburn and re-establishes the pH of the skin allowing it to heal.

Janegee Suncare…

is great to use before and after a day in the sun. It’s especially beneficial to use at the end of the day because it hydrates and soothes the skin, regenerates tissue, and stimulates cell renewal. Although janegee lip balms don’t have sunscreen (due to high chemicals involved), their sweet sticks have meadow foam oil, raspberry seed oil and coconut oil, which all have natural SPFs!

Thank you for giving us the inside skinny on staying safe in the sun Jane and Sophie; here’s to enjoying a healthy, sunny summer on the seacoast!

xx
